This second trailer for The Wolfman is much better than the previous one, which I found to be a bit lame for my taste. Here we get to see much more of the juicy parts, compared with the first one that had its focus on the plot and the characters.
The trailer also shows that the director Joe Johnston has managed to capture the mysterious atmosphere of the Victorian era, well. Actually, so well that I its tone is very similar to another good monster movie, Frankenstein from 1994, with Robert De Niro and Kenneth Branagh.
Frankenstein received an Oscar nomination for best makeup, which was lost to Ed Wood. However, the effects that we see in The Wolfman, doesn’t seem to be that bad either; I especially like the scene where Benicio Del Toro’s fingers goes demoniacal, pointing in all kind of unnatural directions!
Besides a perfect atmosphere, for this kind of horror, and frightful effects the movie also stars a couple of skillful actors, like the Academy Awards winners Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro, together with the golden globe winner Emily Blunt.
Therefore, I guess that The Wolfman has a good chance to be something extraordinary. I will definitely go and see it, as it howls into the theaters on February 10, 2010.
