Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones, a gruesome story about the murder of a young girl, wrapped up in an overly sweet imagery, had its limited premiere last Friday.
However, it doesn’t seems that everybody has such lovely things to say about it, though. It’s has been called everything from, a queasy experience to straight-out dumbfounded.
Two things seems to upset the reviewers, the clumsy way Jackson shifts between horrific violence and cloying sentimentality and the excess use of CGI effects.
After looking at the TV spot below, I can actually understand why some people could have trouble understanding it. At a first glance, it seems to be a wild mix of a dark thriller, a colorful drama and fantasy, making it come off as a testosteronic Disney movie. However, it can also be that Jackson is a couple of steps ahead of us, and we just cannot understand what he’s done, just yet.
Nonetheless, I think I will take the chance to see it, on its full-blown premiere, next month on January 15. What’s your thoughts about Lovely Bones, is it a movie that you plan to see?
