I heard first about the movie Salt, about a year ago, just as the filming started. The thing that I thought to be the most interesting about it was that since Tom Cruise, who was original thought to play the lead, couldn’t be part of it, they decided to rewrite the script and go with a female lead instead – Angelina Jolie.
Since spy movies isn’t exactly my favorite genre and the plot, which revolves around a CIA officer being accused to be a KGB sleeper spy, didn’t appeal to me, it slipped under my radar.
However, today it popped up again, in a newsletter from Sony Pictures, so I decided to at least check out the trailer and it turned out to be far from what I had expected!
I thought that the trailer would show off a dry and boring spy thriller, but it did not. Instead it turned out to be an intense action packed story, which actually managed to raise a bit of anticipation for it.
Besides Angelina Jolie, who I think is far better suited for action roles than drama roles, we also see Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor, as the guys sent out to bring Jolie’s character in. The director, Phillip Noyce, is another factor why I think this one could be good, since he directed both, Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games, two movies that I really enjoy.
What do you think, will you head down to your local cinema on July 23, this summer, to see Angelina Jolie being part of an action filled cat and mouse game? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
