Is this the creepiest movie poster this year? I doubt that we’ll see a creepier poster than the one for the “Hostel” and “Cabin Fever” producer Eli Roth’s latest contribution to horror, “The Last Exorcism”.
The plot in “The Last Exorcism” centers around the Reverend Cotton Marcus, who are traveling to a farm in Louisiana, where he will perform, yet another routine exorcism, this time on a disturbed religious fanatic’s daughter. However, Cotton doesn’t have much faith for what he does and after years of parting desperate believers from their money, through his work for the church, his conscience has become too much for him to bear.
Therefore, Cotton plans to film a confessional documentary, during this exorcism, which he plans to be his last. However, nothing could have prepared Cotton and his crew for greets them on the farm – true evil. Cotton’s beliefs are shaken to the core and his faith is put to the test, as he must do everything in his powers, to save the farmer’s daughter, himself and the crew, before it is too late.
“The Last Exorcism” is directed by Daniel Stamm and written by Huck Botko and Andrew Gurland. Among its stars we see, Patrick Fabian as Cotton Marcus, Ashley Bell (United States of Tara) as the possessed Nell Sweetzer, Iris Bahr and Louis Herthum.
Apparently the scrip is said to something extra. The producer Eli Roth has been reported to have said that it’s the scariest script he had read in a long time. If the script has managed to scare him, then I reckon it must be one a heck of a script, consider his previous movies!
I’m not a big fan on documentary style movies, like “The Blair Witch Project”, “REC” or “Paranormal Activity”, but I want to believe that it’s the script who makes the movie, not its format. So, I hold my fingers crossed and hope that the script is as good as the reports say it is.
Nevertheless, if the trailer is just as half as good as the poster, then I’ll be truly excited to let my eyes sink into this one, as it starts haunting the theaters on August 27.
