What could a drugged girl in a cage, possible have in common with friendly little Hobbits? Read on and I’ll explain it to you.
Let’s start from the beginning, though.
The upcoming indie horror Pet revolves around Seth, a sweet, lonely guy that works in an animal shelter while longing for someone to love. One day, the gorgeous waitress Holly crosses his path and Seth falls for her – hard – and embarks on an ambitious campaign to conquer her affection. As he learns that she isn’t interested, he gets obsessed and his delusional mind comes up with a plan.
Seth kidnaps Holly and places her in a cage, under the animal shelter. It doesn’t take long for Seth’s plan to fall apart as Holly begins an unsuspected form of psychological warfare against her abductor. The situation begins to spiral out of control, and soon Seth has trouble discerning which one that is the predator and the victim of the two.
This role takes Dominic Monaghan, who plays Seth, far away from the beauty and peacefulness of the Shire, where he played his most famous part, Merry the Hobbit. Judging by the trailer, there is not a trace of any friendly Hobbit in Monaghan’s acting, and instead he presents an interesting stage four closet psycho, which I cannot wait to see more of. Ksenia Solo, which recently starred in TV-shows like Turn, Lost Girl and Orphan Black, portrays Holly.
Pet is written by Jeremy Slater, who recently wrote for the TV-show The Exorcist, and Carles Torrens directed. Pet will go up online (VoD, iTunes) and in theaters on December 2. Have a look at the official trailer below and see what you think.
